You probably have heard by now about Klout and Peerindex, the 2 social influence measurement systems that are very popular these days. Especially, there is lot's of Buzz around Klout and it's new way of measuring Influence.

Apparently Klout is now more focused on measuring Engagement than real influence which caused a lot of rankings to drop massively. This leads to much controversy as you can imagine, because a lot of valid social media strategies are build on the idea of not putting too much effort in socializing, but the impact of the content itself. For one I am following the same principle, I have described the mechanics here.

Klout therefor really has to think twice about their new measuring system, I can only say that for now I recommend Peerindex over Klout by lack of better tools.

Underneath are some examples about the controversy about Klout, decide for yourself:

Update: I just tested a new tool called Kred (http://kred.ly/) which also measures Influence and is mainly Twitter- oriented. It seems somewhat better than Klout but not up to the same level as PeerIndex, but we keep an eye on that as welll.
